Rodblog is getting a divorce... with itself

On Sunday, La Liga will conclude its 2006-2007 domestic season. With it will go the daily headlines which are inspired by actual football matches. Instead, football fans will be bombarded by two months of non-stop transfer talk. It has begun already; and this website is no exception. While it can be somewhat rousing, the transfer season is hardly exhilarating. The supporters who awake and run to the computer for an early-morning re-cap of the previous day’s transactions are few and far between.

With that in mind, Rodblog will be adjusting its football-reporting schedule until the new season. Monday’s column will feature a complete round-up of the weekend’s matches in Spain, the quarter-finals of the Gold Cup, and the usual rumors and speculation. It will be updated throughout the week; although an entirely new column will not appear until Monday, 25 June. This schedule will continue throughout the summer. Rodblog will post a weekly column – updated as necessary. The daily column will return on 30 July.

Additionally, more changes are on the way to the website as a whole. Rodblog has been online for an entire calendar year; and, although it has undergone several facelifts already, a fundamental adjustment will be administered in the next few weeks.

The original Rodblog site, the one you are currently reading, will be devoted entirely to football reporting. The Literature and Catching the Eye links will be removed and relocated. Their destination is the centre-piece of the Rodblog shake-up.

Rodblog does not want to be spread thin. Every day, people are bombarded with information from every direction. They get it as they drive to work, as they eat their lunch, as they go about their duties, as they unwind, and as they exercise. They crave information; and it is concise, concentrated information which best suits their needs.

With that in mind, the current set-up of Rodblog has outlived its purpose. It currently includes content ranging from sports to politics, lifestyle to philosophy, pop-culture to current events. It is too much. And it is too difficult to maintain an acceptable level of concentration in each area.

As such, the original Rodblog website will report only sporting news. World football will comprise the majority of the content, while the National Football League and National Hockey League will be given their dues as well. While avoiding up-to-the-minute occurrences, Rodblog will provide the usual, analytical reporting to what it believes is pertinent to sports fans.

All other content will be given a new venue. For the past few weeks, Rodblog has been constructing a new website with a new focus. It will be launched in the coming weeks; and the link will be found in this space. It will have a new name and a mandate to filter through the information-bombardment and publish what is applicable and relevant. Its spotlight will be on international news, lifestyle, literature, and culture. Essentially, its goal will be to give you the information you need in one visit to one webspace. Hope you enjoy.
